About Kimmy

Digital artist, lover of bugs, nature and spooky things. Obsessed with making the world more colourful.

Jabiru

This is an abstract vector I created last week. I’m having fun with limited palettes, textured backgrounds and abstract shapes. I’m moving further away from the confines of perfect lines and structures, and it’s honestly very freeing! I think this Jabiru has a lot of character, with her elongated, wobbly legs and cheeky smile. 🙂

Fun with Acrylics!

I bought some half-fancy brushes when I was feeling down one day with the thought that I would give painting a real go this time. I have dabbled over the years but always hated everything I did and would give up (for a short time and then would try again).

I’ve really been trying to stop expecting everything to be perfect when I paint. I’m learned to loosen up and just let things flow and turn out… however they turn out! I think, because I have mostly done digital art, it is hard to let go of that control and perfectionism. So, here are a couple of paintings I have done over the last few weeks. Let me know what you think!

Australian Bird Art

I designed a series of Australian birds, and these Top End birds were my first choice. They are a little different to my usual style, but I’m really digging the way they turned out. I enjoyed playing around with textures and background noise to add depth to the drawings and make them more interesting. I also used more sharp angles instead of my usual curves and I love the results!

I think my favourite is the Black-necked Stork (more commonly known as the Jabiru), but the Bush Stone-curlew gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, with its funny long legs. Click on the images to enlarge them. If you want to download any of these as a print, please head over to my Etsy store.
