I really enjoyed this post on the fabulous blog Be a Fun Mum. There really are so many little things (or moments) that, often subconsciously, bring us pleasure throughout the day. So, I thought that I would (consciously) share some of mine.

My Buddha statue. One of my dearest friends (Renee) bought me this for my birthday. I keep it in the kitchen and light a candle most nights while I cook dinner.

The bookshelf in my bedroom.

Finding old books from my childhood.

Beautifully illustrated books.

Moments like these, of which there are many when you have both children and pets.

Adventure games. My six year old and I often sit down on the weekends and play graphical adventure games together. (Huge nostalgia for me and so much fun for the both of us.)

Am I the only person I know who has played this one?

My cat. I have this theory that people who don’t like cats must have never had one. They are impossible not to like once you get to know one.

Breakfast. I eat a ham, egg, tomato and cheese toasted sandwich every morning and wash it down with a cappucino (my only coffee-based drink for the day). I read the news online and drop crumbs all over my keyboard. It is one of my favourite times of day.

Giant insects. When we lived in the Top End we got up in the wee morning hours to drive to Adelaide only to find this awesome stick insect!

Nooks in the garden. If I was a kid I would totally set up camp in there.

This old painting that my daughter bought for me at a trash and treasure shop.

Lego.

And, finally, tucking up into bed with a brand new Mad comic.

If I admit that I played Leisure Suit Larry, does it make me old? Because now I feel old.

  2. kimberley says:

No way! Because that would mean I was old too.

  3. Leisure Suit Larry – my favourite!! I remember you used to nominate your age and then they would ask you questions relating to your age to see if you really were over 21 (or whatever the age limit was). I used to casually come out and ask mum and dad “Umm what were the names of the beatles?” “How had a hit ‘Blue Moon’” etc just to get in to play it! hehehe

Kim, do you remember when pre-email we used to send each other letters of floppy disks and you sent me Quest once?

  4. kimberley says:

Ha, ha!! Ally, it was at YOUR house that I first played it! We never had a computer while I was growing up and I used to love coming to your place and playing text adventures.

Yep, I recognise Leisure Suit Larry, and Monkey Island – I really loved that last one. But I have to ask, what _is_ that beautifully illustrated book that’s open in the photograph?

  8. kimberley says:

Nadia, it’s Alice in Wonderland by Rodney Matthews. I just Googled him and found he has a Website at http://www.rodneymatthews.com

I think I’ll be having a bit of a browse there now! :)

  9. Nadiah says:

Kimberley: Oh right, Alice in Wonderland, as it says right there on the title … :-) Long day is my excuse; I must have thought it was a different book to the one behind it.

  10. Nadiah says:

That link has some great stuff. It reminds me of this Gold Coast artist named Steven Bowerman, from whom I bought a poster at the markets when I was about 15 (going through a “trippy” phase in my artistic tastes). It now hangs on the back of the toilet door, a bit ragged from the years, but it still makes me smile.

  11. kimberley says:

Ha! Ha! I had the same kind of trippy/fantasy posters in my early twenties. I’m hoping they make a comeback!

  12. Nadiah says:

Well if they don’t, we can always tell the hipsters that we’re being ironic.

  13. kimberley says:

    Naturally ;)

  14. Alex says:

the blonde lady on the Mad cover looks like you!

  15. kimberley says:

Alex, I can actually see the resemblance now that you say it!
